The true cost of learning

Every act of conscious learning requires the willingness to suffer an injury to one’s self-esteem. That is why young children, before they are aware of their own self-importance, learn so easily; and why older persons, especially if vain or important, cannot learn at all.

  1. Nietzsche once said that “Convictions are more dangerous enemies of truth than lies”. As one grows older, the prejudices and preconceived notions accumulate,… sometimes there is selective filtering to rationalize events that do not conform to our mind map. Little wonder that adults don’t learn like children do.
