Infosys CEO interviews the Pepsi CEO

A very interesting, thought provoking and well done interview by Nandan Nilekhani the CEO of Infosys as he chats with Indra Nooyi the CEO of Pepsico. The entire interview is here

To even a very lay person, it must be pretty apparent that it indeed is very difficult for a non- American, especially an Asian to be the CEO of a Fortune 100 company. More so, for a woman. It is very clear from the interview why Indra Nooyi made it to the top. She undoubtedly is one of the most powerful woman on the planet and if she is able to set and realise the audacious goal for Pepsico in the 21st century, she would be leaving a legacy which would be difficult to match.

I am simply amazed at how she changed the complete business at Pepsico. What is more enlightening is how she talks about purpose and performance and the candid response that she gives when asked how she would decide if ever there was a conflict. The part that she deals with the NGO’s issues and how she still respects Sunita Narain shows her true professionalism.

  1. I agree Subba. It is a great interview. What she has done is not easy. What a wonderful mission she has: to make her co. the defining corporation!

It leaves one with a sense of inadequacy about oneself and raises questions as to what one is doing with life.

Nandan’s too is a remarkable story. I am very pleased particularly that he and Narayana Murthy did not have one of those famous splits (god bless!). ow many have had that. That shows maturity.

It would be a wonderful exercise to get the case studies she mentions.

  2. I completely agree with you. The vision of being the defining corporation is breath taking. And the care and consideration that she is giving to shaping the vision is very authentic.

I clearly realise now what she means when she says the CEO role is one of calling. Only when someone has an elevated and liberating view of the self, can one conceive of such a vision.
